Commonly used tool setting methods for CNC machining centers


In simple terms, the commonly used tool setting methods for drilling and tapping centers and CNC machining centers include tool setting, active tool setting and trial cutting tool setting.


Since the complete machining process of a workpiece may involve several or even dozens of tools, the trial cutting method is relatively primitive and the tool setting accuracy is poor, so it is rarely used. The following focuses on the first two typical tool setting methods:


1. Active tool setting method: Active tool setting is completed by using the tool detection function of the CNC machining center. The device can actively and accurately measure the length of each tool in each coordinate direction, and can actively correct the tool error value. The detection and correction process can be completed on the basis of the normal operation of the machine tool. This tool setting method is completely completed by electronic control equipment, which eliminates the artificial tool setting error, so the tool setting accuracy is higher and the tool setting power is better.


2. The tool setting method of the tool setting instrument: the tool setting instrument is used for tool setting. Because of its high economy, it is the main method of tool setting in CNC machining centers. There are two kinds of tool setting methods: inner tool setting gauge and outer tool setting gauge. The tool setting of the external tool setter needs to be calibrated outside the machine tool in advance and can be used after being installed on the machine tool; the machine tool tool setter is a method of directly installing the tool on the fixed position of the machine tool for measurement.
